Layette On 'Em!

This cake took me 5 1/2 hours total to decorate. I spent one hour just doing the buttons. It took me 4 1/2 more hours to frost, cover with fondant, cut out shapes, and decorate the cake. I even impressed myself on this one. It turned out really cute.

Now that's absolutely stellar. Not only do the buttons look really nice, but the clothes are really, really well done. Even the ribbon looks fabulous! I'm not much for pastels, but I don't think the designer that sits behind me could have done a better job with the colors, and he's known for his eye for color.

how do you make the buttons? i have been trying to find out how, and it seems like no one is giving up that information.

First, I made balls out of gum paste. Then I flattened them with the end of a dowel rod. After that I used the small end of a tip #1 to poke 2 "dots" for the button holes. It's pretty simple and I found the directions for this cake in the 2006 Wilton Yearbook.
